Schedule a Tune-Up

Replace the Air Filter

It is recommended that you replace your air filter every 30-90 days for maximum efficiency. The best way to test if you should replace your air filter is by holding it up to the light. If you can’t see light coming through the filter, that means it’s time for a replacement.

Clean the Condenser Unit

Since the condenser unit is the part of the system that sits outside year-round, it’s vulnerable to accumulating all sorts of debris. Take a moment to look through and around the condenser and remove any twigs, leaves, or other debris that might have gotten caught in it since the last check-up. Make sure that any  other shrubs or plant life are trimmed away to make sure they don’t eventually interfere with your unit.

Check Insulation Levels and Seal Leaks

Insulation determines how well your conditioned air remains inside your home. If you are unsure how well your home is insulated, consider having an insulation inspection completed. 

Another thing to mark off of the checklist is looking for any cracks that need to be sealed. The best way to tell if you have air leakage is to hold a slightly smoking material to the area in question. If the paper or the smoke start to move around quickly, then a leak is most likely present. Proceed by sealing small leaks with a weatherproof caulk or using expandable foam spray for the larger leaks.

Thermostat Inspection

It is also smart to test the functions of your thermostat. As the part of the system that controls what happens with your cooling unit, your thermostat should always be working correctly. Test  all of the functions that your thermostat has to offer, and make sure that the functions run for the appropriate amount of time. If certain functions don’t run at the length or quality that they should, it’s time to call a professional.
